Went to Angie’s daughters bday party yesterday came home for a few minutes and was to go to Rochelle‘s house to get a DVD disc and give her one I had. And maybe share a drink for a few minutes before Angie was going to come over for the night.

So on my way to Rochelle‘s house my much needed to be rebuilt carburetor took a dump. I was on a part of the freeway where there was 6 lanes (on and off ramps) I had just make it out of the #6 lane (passing up the slow pokes) moving all the way over to get on the off ramp to jump on another freeway. I was in the 5th lane when I noticed my car pretty much lost all power. Having my blinker on and knowing i had little time before it was just going to die I started wondering if the idiot next to me was going to let me over finally he passes me up and I jump the rest of the lanes to the side. And the car dies out, “someone” must of been looking over me. Rochelle comes to rescue us and takes us back home (it was going to be a while before the tow truck got there)

Getting our butts wet as we site on iceplant on the hill under a tree to keep cool as we wait for Rochelle..

After that happens and the rest of the day goes on. My friend Angie makes it over and when the tow truck driver calls me to let me know that he has my car so we can meet him at the car repair shop. We get up and go (about 9:45pm) meet him there pay the guy come home. Brandon goes to bed, Angie starts up a movie, and I’m in my kitchen ready for a bottle of wine. As i’m opening it I hear this loud noise and ask what that noise was. Angie said it was from the TV. But to me it didn’t sound like that. Right after that I hear my door bell ring a few times. I go to answer it to find my upstairs neighbor telling me that the back two tires on Angie’s car (which was parked in my parking spot) were slashed.

After she makes a couple of calls I ask her if she wants something to drink. She said yea but I want the hard stuff. She asked for the tequilla after a couple of shots she felt much better. And I, after polishing off a bottle of wine did as wel.

So because Angie was going to take Brandon to school this morning he lucked out with not having to go.

When ever you buy a used car from someone. You just about always run the huge risk of some kind of problems that they don’t tell you about. There are usually reasons why they are selling the car.

Anyhow I bought the Accord knowing that the carburetor would need to be looked at. When it comes to the Honda Accord and carburetor problems it could be one a few things wrong.

It can be one of the the vast amount of vacuum cables has gone bad

It could be that the carburetor just needs a good cleaning

Possibly even just a slight adjustment

In the worst case scenerio it would need to be rebuilt (since they don’t make these new anymore).

When I bought the car he said that it would need to be replaced but the car starts up find during the day, just a lil trouble in the morning when it’s cold outside. Well the next day I started having some minor problems with it starting up. Later into the day it started making this horrible sound. A loud nasty sound like two uncovered electrical cables were touching each other. At first I thought that the carburetor was just going really bad. Then the car after I got it back home just wouldn’t start. It was just making the nasty sounds. I don’t know much about cars. But started to think, wait the carburetor is a part of the fuel system. That shouldn’t make that kind of sound. Then being how the starter is part of the electrical system that is when I started to think it was the issue. And after I described the sound to my brother he pretty much was sure of the same thing.

So let’s jump to another part of my story today in finding a trustworthy mechanic. I like to take my car to a place called Valley Automotive. It’s owned by a really nice guy named Shawn. However when I brought my car over there on Friday they don’t do carburetor’s. One of the guys there suggested I called this other number of a place about 10+ miles away.

Today I was thinking I really don’t want to get my car towed all the way over there and pay all that money of $3.00 a mile plus the hook up fee. I started to look up Carburetor shops locally.

The first one I call up was about 2 blocks away from Valley Automotive. I really liked the guy and they seemed to be really helpful and wanting to help. But unfortunately they were already doing two other’s and wouldn’t have my car done till probably thursday. His quote was $395.00

I then decided what the heck and called the number i was referred too on Friday. I ask if they offer any kind of towing or discouts on towing if I have work done at their shop. They say that they can refer me to a company (something I didn’t need). So I ask them again, “so you don’t offer any kind of help on towing” and the guy says to me, towing cost money. I tell him that I understand that but I know that some companies will pay for the towing if you get work done at the shop (like the first guy did). Then he goes on to say, well we can put it on your bill. At this point I was like ok, forget the towing on to the next question. I ask him if he can give me an estimate on how much it would cost to rebuild the carburetor. He goes on and on about how he can’t give me a price that it all depends on this and that. I knew right then and there I couldn’t trust them. And said thank you and hung up.

I make my third and final phone call to Southern California Carburetor’s. Although they didn’t offer any kind of towing, they said they were able to start work on it today. And they were able to give me a quote of 395.00 (same as the first). I really liked the guy, he seemed to be honest and really nice. I then made the needed calls to get my car over to them.

The car makes it over to find out that my brother and I’s thoughts were correct in it needing a new starter. He said they would charge me $80.00 to replace it. Now while I could of had my brother do this. I figured I might as well have them do it, since I already paid $45 for my car to be towed there and it would cost another $45 to get it back home. He also said that the fly wheel might need to be replaced to ant that could be very costly. They said though that they would have to get back to me on the cost of the starter. So while i’m waiting, I decide to do my own research on the cost of a starter. I called 3 places 2 of them offered the same price at $79 plus a $35 core charge. The 3rd place which was also the closest place sold their’s for $110.00 plus a $32 core. But they said that if I found the starter somewhere else cheaper that they would match it plus give me 5% on top of it. WHAT A GREAT DEAL I thought. And they happen to have one in stock. I call back the shop to see what they have found out as far as price. They said it would cost $150.00 just for the part, which was more then I wanted to pay for it. I also found out that my fly wheel was fine (THANK GOD) So I then took my ass down to Kragen and got the starter for $75.00 and brought it down for them to put it in. And BINGO the car started up WOO HOO!!!!!

So since the car now starts up the carburetor has been put off for a lil longer.
