Procrastinating
What you’re about to read is what happens when you wait till the last minute to send in your taxes.
Now let me remind you also that I don’t have a car right now so I must take the bus everywhere or ask my friends and family to help me out here and there.

It all started with not having any stamps. I hardly ever buy stamps because all my bills are paid online. Yesterday I was going to take care of it but got side tracked and just thought ohh well i’ll walk down to 7-11 later on tonight and buy them. Well last night came and went and I never bought any. Then I thought ok I’ll print up my forms sign them and bring them with me when I go to get Brandon from school and go to the post office right there and send them off. So that was my plan.
Thirty minutes before I am to leave to catch the bus I start the printing process. The printing though didn’t get very far when I realized my pages were coming up white. I had ran out of black ink (and getting low on color too). So I started freaking out I called up Kerri asking if she can print up my taxes but she too was running out of ink. Called up Angela but she was unable to help as she is out of paper and wasn’t home at the time. Ohh my how am I going to get Brandon from school get to the store to buy ink get home print out my forms then get my way back over to the post office which closes at 5 all with in 2 hours and traveling on bus and walking.
So I left to get Brandon and we went and did our thing with a serious hussle, I actually start to think I’m going to make it. I got Brandon at 3 and was able to run into Target that was a little out of the way and made it back home at 4ish. Throw the ink in and start the process over again. To find out that the while they are printing a tad bit better they are still faded on the edges. I get another error popping up on the screen. Now not only did I have to replace the ink, but now it’s telling me to replace the printer heads. Ohh the joys, I would have to find an office store that sells them as Target doesn’t. I know now that I wasn’t going to hit my 5 p.m. post office closing time. That I was going to have to go to the Main San Diego office that stays open till midnight on tax deadlines. Which is on the other side of town about a 20-25 minute drive away and about a 90-120 minute bus/trolley ride away. And not only that, I still had to find a way to print up my forms. I called up my friend Angie (not Angela, two different women) to tell her about my day and just rant to her and she volunteers her car to me since she was at work. All I had to do was to get there and since she was at work she was able to print up my taxes. So I call up a cab and get over there with only a $10.00 fare. She gives me the keys and off we go once again stress free.
Thanks Angie for letting me borrow your car
So what have I learned from this story??? To never assume your printer is going to work and never put things off that are have such a serious deadline….
I can see and hear Jeni now shaking her head and saying “Heather, what am I going to do with you?”

I just LAAAAUGHED AND LAAAAAAUGHED at this!
We accountants have many backup plans in place for similar situations… multiple toner cartridges on hand, more than one printer, and we know all the post offices that stay open til midnight on April 15th!
