He’s Alive!!!

A few weeks back when I bought some fish I had also bought a bamboo shrimp and some bamboo for him. The same day that I bought him he became MIA. I searched everywhere in my tank for him. I looked on all the plants, inside the cave I even took the cave out looking for him. He was no where to be found. I assumed that he either died and his body just kinda dissapered (from others eating him) or he crawled out of the tank (since they are known for doing so). But I never found him anywhere around my tank I even searched in the filter for him. NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING…. I was like damn I just spent five dollars on this guy and he is missing.

Today I go to get my phone which is over by my aquarium, and I looked in my tank and there he was right up front and center waving his hands saying “look at me!” I couldn’t believe it. I can only assume that he was maybe hiding under the gravel hanging out with the eel (that had comitted suicide about a week or so ago). Maybe that is why the eel did what he did, he saw this huge shrimp and said WTF and got out of there lol.

EDIT: I just found out shortly after posting this that these little guys do a thing called molting where they lose their shell. They do this about once a month, and while doing this they hide to protect themselves from other fish that are in the tank. I also read they like to hide for a few weeks while they get used to their new enviroment. I never read any of this the first time I researched them.

So here is my little guy alive and well.

Wow! He’s a beautiful shade. When they’re a deep red like that with their fans out, that indicates they are doing well. I have three right now. The smaller female and male are turning a nice shade of red. The large female’s still a little pale but she’s getting there. Enjoy your new tank mate!
