Not much to blog about, so I’m going to blog another movie post. This time about my favorite Fantasy movie. I am not a big fan of these types of movies, so narrowing it down to one isn’t too hard.. Just to let you know I am definitely not a Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings fan at all.

My favorite Fantasy movie is “Labyrinth” 1986 Directed by Jim Henson.

Young Sarah (Jennifer Connelly) is left home alone by her parents and she has to babysit her little brother Toby. But the baby keeps crying and Sarah, while telling him a story to make him sleep, inadvertently conjures from a fantasy world the Goblin King (David Bowie) who steals the child and brings him to his castle in the middle of a labyrinth. Sarah has to rescue him before midnight, or the baby will became a goblin… (Outline from IBDB)

It has been forever since I have seen this but when I saw it at Blockbuster I had to rent it to see it again. I have forgotten just how much I love this movie. And I remembered how I used to have a crush on David Bowie in this film. Some of favorite scenes are shown below in the screen shots.

When the Goblins are anticipating Sarah to say the magic words of asking the Goblin King to take the baby away. I just love when the big guy on the right says, “did she say it?”

I love the song he is singing here and watching them all dance… “Dance Magic Dance”

I loved the way they were both dressed in this scene. I would love to actually go to a masquerade dance.

And how can anyone not love this scene obviously inspired from the famous M.C. Escher drawing

Here is Brandon’s 2007-2008 School Picture, he decided he didn’t want to give his big beautiful smile. We were unable to get his hair done before his picture and he was a little down about that.

He is still a cutie though, sorry the scan didn’t come out that great

Speechless

Sep-19-2007

I was here at home working on a clients site. Angela calls me up and ask me what I was doing, and if I was going to be home. Said she would be on her way over, to hang out for a an hour or so. She makes it over, we start talking. And she takes something out of her purse and says to me, this is why I came over to give this to you. She pops out a jewelry box, I open it up to find this beautiful ring. I was speechless, I told her that I felt I couldn’t accept it. But I also know her well enough that she will make sure I take it. It’s a gift from her and her Grandfather for everything I did for her and the family two months ago when she had that unfortunate incident (post that were related to it, have been removed from my blog), when I stayed with her for a week taking care of her and the kids. But I was just being a friend and doing what felt right. I definitely wasn’t expecting anything in return, I know she would of done the same.

Click here to read a post I wrote to her then

I love you Angela, my friend, my sister (actually aren’t we blood sisters as I think I recall poking our fingers as young teenagers). You have taught me to be a better person, with a beautiful outlook on life. I will forever be here when ever you need me.

Here are some pictures I took of it in the box (my fingers are too fat to show a closeup, lol) Why do I suddenly feel a need to get my nails done.

These are 1 kt each in a 14kt gold setting, picked out by Angela

Ok so they are 1 kt DiamondAura stones, but could you tell? Angela has 3 rings with these stones they are all really beautiful. No one has ever doubted them not being genuine diamonds. Angela was afraid I wouldn’t like it, that I might think it’s too big and gawdy but it’s a gift from her heart why wouldn’t I? Shoot my husbands never gave me a ring like this, I think she wants to marry me, NOT!…Thank you once again Angela and Grandpa

80’s Teen Movies

Sep-17-2007

Between 1984 and 1986 the top five best teen movies IMO from the 80’s came out, maybe even of the 90’s as well. They might have some competition with American Pie trilogy. The past few days I’ve been watching these films. I’m sure that you can probably guess at least 3 if not all 5 without even reading any further. Please note that these are in no particular order, although I think if I absolutely had to pick one as my favorite, it would be sixteen candles. (Screenshots were personally done by me for this post)

Sixteen Candles
1984 - Written and Directed by John Hughes

Summary: Samantha’s life is going downhill fast. The fifteen-year-old has a crush on the most popular boy in school, and the geekiest boy in school has a crush on her. Her sister’s getting married, and with all the excitement the rest of her family forgets her birthday! Add all this to a pair of horrendously embarrassing grandparents, a foreign exchange student named Long Duc Dong, and we have the makings of a hilarious journey into young womanhood.

“Can I borrow your underpants for 10 minutes?”

Pretty in Pink
1986 - Written by John Hughes, Directed by Howard Deutch

Summary: Young Andie is one of the not-so-popular girls in high school. She usually hangs out with her friends Iona or Duckie. Duckie has always had a crush on her, but now she has met a new guy from school, Blane. He’s one of the rich and popular guys but can the two worlds meet?

“You said you couldn’t be with someone who didn’t believe in you. Well I believed in you. I just didn’t believe in me. I love you… always.”

The Breakfast Club
1985 - Written and Directed by John Hughes

Summary: It’s the weekend, and five students have weekend detention. There’s a jock, a princess, a misfit, a nerd, and a lout. Not much in common, except for having to give up their day, sit in the school library, and write an essay for the principal. Being from such widely different backgrounds and having such completely different personalities, it’s inevitable that some frictions and shenanigans develop. Especially when the principal leaves the room.

“Naked blonde walks into a bar with a poodle under one arm, and a two-foot salami under the other. The bartender says, I guess you won’t be needing a drink. Naked lady says..” the ceiling gives way “Oh, SHIT!!!!”

Weird Science
1985 - Written and Directed by John Hughes

Summary: Two unpopular teenagers, Gary and Wyatt, fail at all attempts to be accepted by their peers. Thier desperation to be liked leads them to “create” a woman via their computer. Their living and breathing creation is a gorgeous woman, Lisa, who’s purpose is to boost their confidence level by putting them into situations which require Gary and Wyatt to act like men. On their road to become accepted they encounter many hilarious obstacles which gives the movie an overall sense of silliness.

“Gary?… By the way, why are we wearing bras on our heads?”
“Ceremonial.”

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
1986 - Written and Directed by John Hughes

Summary: Ferris is a street-wise kid who knows all the tricks. Today he decides to take the day off school. When Ferris takes the day off, so must his best friends, Cameron and Sloane. Cameron is reluctantly persuaded to borrow his father’s Ferrari, and together they hatch a plan to get Sloane out of class. Suspicious dean of students Ed Rooney knows all about Ferris, but can never catch him. Ferris’ sister Jeanie is also frustrated that Ferris always gets away with his tricks and she doesn’t. Furthermore, Ferris is an ‘angel’ in his parents eyes. It’s Ferris’ day off, he’s out to enjoy himself, and he does!.

“Ladies and gentlemen, you are such a wonderful crowd, we’d like to play a little tune for you. It’s one of my personal favorites and I’d like to dedicate it to a young man who doesn’t think he’s seen anything good today - Cameron Frye, this one’s for you.”

ferris.jpg

As you can see John Hughes was/is “the man” and a very busy man from the looks of it as these were all written by him and he directed all but one of them, and all with in a couple years.

The plot summaries for these movies was borrowed from IMDB

When you go and buy furniture from Ikea, you can expect two things. First of them very low in price, and second which usually always goes with the first… Low in quality. I’ve had this coffee table for a lil over a year. Matter of fact it’s my second one in two years, the first one broke right away. But I got another cause I have two end tables that go with it, and they kinda blend in with my furniture in my living room. Anyhow, so this table has been on it’s last leg (no pun intended) for a while now. It holds our stuff on it, but it’s very unstable. Every time I have to move it to vacuum, I’m so afraid it’s just going to collapse.

So the other day I came up with the grand idea of how I can keep it up and going just a lil longer. I’ll go to my local Home Depot and get some braces and screws and give the legs more support to the top. But just be warned I never said I was Bob Vila, I’m more like Tim Allen’s character from the old Home Improvement show.

The parts I purchased.. let’s see $7 and some change or $80 and up for a new one (and remembering that your broke)?

The table in question

These are the candles, wait it looks more like a gob of wax with the rocks mixed in on top of the table, this is what happens when you decided to burn cheap candles for too long.
